FAQs

Do I need any experience to take part?

Absolutely not. If you can hold a paintbrush (or even just point at colours), you’re already qualified. Sessions are designed for all abilities — from confident creatives to people who “haven’t done anything arty since school”.

What do you bring with you?

Everything! I bring the ceramic pieces, paints, brushes, equipment and protective coverings. You don’t need to provide anything at all — other than tables, chairs and a few willing painters.

Is it messy?

Pottery painting is a controlled kind of messy. My paints are water-based and easy to clean, and I take sensible steps to protect surfaces. Aprons can be provided, and I always encourage sensible painting… but a bit of paint on fingers or tip of the nose is all part of the fun!

How long do sessions last?

Most sessions last between 1.5 and 2 hours, but I’m flexible. All of my sessions can be adapted to suit your group size, attention spans and schedule.

What happens to the pottery afterwards?

Once you have finished painting (actually finished after telling yourself you’re finished 3 time prior), I take all pieces away to be hand-varnished. This seals and protects the design before items are returned to host ready to use, gift or display proudly.

How long does it take to get the finished pieces back?

Finished items are usually returned within 7–14 days, depending on the size of the group and time of year. I’ll always give you a clear timeframe when booking.

Are the sessions suitable for all ages and abilities?

Yes! I run sessions for children, adults and older adults, and everything is adapted to suit the group. Sessions can be lively, calm, creative, chatty — or all of the above. I have a lot of experience with older adults living with a diagnosis of dementia or learning difficulties for example, through to specially adapted SEN sessions for children with autism, ADHD or other additional needs.

How many people can take part?

The external events I run are usually capped at 30 participants, although often due to venue sizing restrictions rather than my own capacity. Private sessions in you own home is simply dependent on your dining table size, amount of chairs you have and your social battery. I’ll always advise what works best for your space and event — whether it’s a small gathering or a larger group.

Do you travel to me?

Yes — Krafty Ceramics is a fully mobile service. I travel to care homes, village halls, private homes, workplaces and event venues. Travel details are discussed at the time of booking.

What area do you cover?

I typically cover my local area of Westbury, Trowbridge, Warminster, Frome, Bradford-on-Avon and surrounding towns and villages. I have, however, held events as far out as Yeovil and Bristol. For out-of-area sessions, a small fuel charge will be added which will be discussed on an individual basis.

How far in advance should I book?

The sooner the better really, especially for weekends and busy periods such as Halloween and Christmas. If you have a date in mind, it’s always worth getting in touch early to avoid disappointment.

In order to allow time for your chosen ceramic to arrive, you will be required to book at least two weeks in advance of your preferred session date. This is already incorporated within my booking system.

Can my party paint different items?

Due to being fully mobile, I do not have the storage space to offer individual ceramic items in a single session. The ceramics usually come in quantities of 6/8 per box from my supplier and I don’t have the capacity to store unallocated stock, so everyone must agree on the same ceramic item to paint. If there is a disagreement on choice, I would suggest a good old game of rock, paper, scissors to decide.

What is your pricing range?

Pricing starts from just £12 per person, up to £35 per person, depending on chosen ceramic. The price per person includes everything you need, there are no hidden extras or varnishing fees, resulting in easy budgeting for you and your guests.

What is the booking process? How do you take payment for sessions and what deposit is required?

Upon booking a session via my Booking page, you will receive an automated confirmation email showing your booking date, time and location has been provisionally accepted. I will then contact you directly to provide my bank details for a £5 per person deposit (which is required to be paid within 24 hours of making the booking). Outstanding balances are required to be paid either in exact cash on the day OR via Bank transfer 24 hours prior to the session (preferred).
